My feelings towards the original sonic games (genesis era).
Sonic was not just apart of my childhood... it was part of my life. I was introduced at a very early age, when I watched my father play Sonic the Hedgehog. Seeing the Blue Blur run through these amazing landscapes to defeat an evil menace that was kidnapping Sonic's friends, and destroying the world. It really inspired me, more than anything else.
But why Sonic rather than anything else Jon?...
Let me tell you. You see, when you think of the principle behind the game; the personality and actions that Sonic takes on his Journey. Dr. Robotnik, the mad evil scientist, is kidnapping the animals on the planet and turning them into robots. Sonic, not really an average hedgehog, steps up to the challenge. He realizes that he is outnumbered (by robots none-the-less), out gunned, and is trying to take down an evil tyrant. However, that does not stop him. He needs to save his friends and stop Dr. Robotnik from taking over the world.
His adventures take him across the world, from underground lave palaces, to robotic cityscapes, to underwater caverns; this hedgehog is willing to fight for what is right. However, Dr. Robotnik notices that Sonic is saving all of his friends, and starts to fight Sonic head on; with his machines, inventions, and mechanical contraptions.
Against all odds, Sonic saves the world, attacks his foe head on, and saves the world. It shows that just because you're not like everyone else, and you have a talent, you can do almost anything. You just need to find out what you're good at... It just so happens that Sonic is good at kicking butt!
But on a serious note, Sonic is not just about the speed or the power. He is about standing up for yourself and others that need you. He is about taking action, yet also thinking it through. He is about fighting for what you believe in. There are a lot of things that Sonic stands for, but this is what he has taught me over the years.
